With Conference Room as classroom, LEAP’s engineering staff attended the IBC Structural Highlights seminar on June 4, 2007 without ever leaving Tampa, or LEAP’s offices. The web based seminar hosted by Dr. S. K. Ghosh and Ms. Susan Dowty discussed the major new features of the 2006 IBC structural provisions. Included in the seminar was vital information pertaining to changes to the structural loading requirements (seismic, wind and snow) as well as to the special inspection, foundation and material provisions. “Education is vital to our industry”, according to Bryan R. Trimbath, LEAP’s new owner and CEO, “with ongoing projects, finding time to send our staff off-site can present a challenge. Web based seminars allow everyone on our staff to learn about new methodology, codes and materials while maintaining tight project schedules.” The interactive ability to ask questions in real time was another plus to the engineers attending, making the seminar not only generally informative, but personal as well.
